Abstract: The author presents his reflections on the
Russian language of the Brezhnev era. The emphasis is
placed on the following symbolic aspects: attitude of the
Russians to the Russian language, attitude of the Russians to the languages of "non-Russians", and attitude of
the Russians to the opinions on the Russian language as
pronounced by the non-Russian-speaking population
