Abstract: The paper touches upon the problems of the basic conceptual political metaphors that give the most typical description of the Ukraine. By the conceptual metaphor we understand the way of considering one domain in terms of another one. As illustration examples taken from magazines and newspapers of 2001-2006 were used. One of the supplementary sources was «the National Corpus of the Russian Language»
