Аннотация: Оценка качества перевода выдающихся произведений русской литературы является актуальной проблемой переводоведения. Материалом исследования послужил первый том оригинала произведения А. И. Солженицына «Архипелаг ГУЛАГ» и его одновременные (1974) переводы: на английский язык — «The Gulag Archipelago», выполненный Томасом Уитни, и немецкий язык — «Der Archipel GULAG», выполненный Анной Петурниг. Выбор материала исследования обусловлен сложностью перевода произведений А. И. Солженицына «в силу уникальности языковой личности» писателя. В рамках данной статьи интерес представляет передача метафорического своеобразия. Целью данной статьи является выявление особенностей передачи зооморфных метафорических единиц, удельная доля которых достаточно высока в произведении. Традиционно оценочной категорией качества перевода является его адекватность. Разработанная нами методика сопоставительно-переводческого анализа метафор помогает рассмотреть технику перевода и определить степень адекватности перевода. Согласно методике сопоставление английских и немецких эквивалентов отобранных метафор производится поэтапно: выявляется тип метафоры, ее семное содержание, коннотации, прием передачи и наиболее точный эквивалент в паре языков (русский — английский и русский — немецкий) путем сопоставления формы и плана содержания. В статье представлена количественная характеристика техники перевода 116 зооморфных метафор на английский и немецкий языки, что позволило выявить специфику передачи исследуемых единиц обоими переводчиками.

Abstract: Assessment of the translation quality of outstanding pieces of Russian literature is an urgent problem of translation studies. The practical research material is taken from the English (by T. Whitney, 1974) and German (by A. Peturnig, 1974) translations of the first volume of Solzhenitsyn’s «The Gulag Archipelago». The choice of the piece of literary work can be explained by certain difficulties of translation of Solzhenitsyn’s works due to his «unique linguistic personality». Within the framework of the article, the description of the metaphorical specificity of the novel is of special interest. The aim of the article is to identify the specificity of zoomorphic metaphors which are relatively abundant in the piece of literature under study. The quality of translation is traditionally assessed through the category of adequacy. A system of methods of comparative analysis of metaphor translation is worked out by the authors to describe the translation techniques and to estimate the degree of translation adequacy. According to this system, the comparative analysis of English and German equivalents of the selected metaphors implies the following stages: description of the type of the metaphor, its semic structure and connotations, the translation technique, and the most adequate equivalent in the language pairs (Russian — English, Russian — German) by way of comparison of the form and the plane of content. The article presents a quantitative description of the translation techniques of 116 zoomorphic metaphors into English and German, which has made it possible to identify the specificity of translation of the units under study by both translators.
