Abstract: The aim of the article is to show the significance of American research conducted in the first half of the XX century (W. Lipptmann, P. Lazersfeld, H. Lasswell, N. Leites, S. Yakobson) and how these ideas influenced modern Russian political linguistics. It is of importance that a great many classical works dealt with political discourse of Soviet Russia
