Abstract: It is the works of American scholars, who investigated the field of political communication
back in the first half of the 20th century, that political linguistics of today is much indebted to.
In 1949 Harold D. Laswell and Nathan Lates edited a collection of papers “Language of
Politics: Quantitative Semantics Research” that was destined to become a real hallmark for
American and world political linguistics. The list of classical works on political communication would have been faulty indeed without the articles by British scholar George Or….
Further on we provide the translations of Harold Laswel’ and George Or’ articles in order
to draw the attention of Russian scholars to the classical works on political linguistics. It is
an attempt to show that these publications have lost none of their topicality and attraction
