Abstract: The paper deals with the analysis of political metaphors in poetic discourse. The research is based on W. Shakespeare’s sonnets. Taking into consideration the linguo-cultural nature of metaphor the author revealed the ways the political life of the medieval England was reflected in Shakespeare’s political metaphors, and specified the devices translators apply to make every single metaphor comprehensible to a bearer of Russian culture
