Abstract: The modern German political discourse describes the social reality of the Federal Republic of Germany and the EU in the comprehension of German political figures by the use of conceptual metaphors. The essence of conceptual metaphor is understanding and experiencing one kind of thing in terms of another (understanding one conceptual domain in terms of another conceptual domain). Artefact metaphors model the social reality in terms of the mechanical, transport, architectural, gastronomical and textile domains. Textile conceptual metaphors include names of clothes, head-dresses, foot-wear and other textile accessories and some theatre properties. They characterize both negative (more often) and positive (less often) aspects of various political objects of the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union in the modern German political discourse
