Abstract: The subject of the article is a successive connection between stylistic searches of the Decembrists and their ancient precursors in the accusatory satirical poetry. The author gives a brief description of the main stylistic modifications of poetic satire based on the research of experts and described in the works of the most significant representatives of the ancient Roman literature, focusing on their conditioning features of the socio-political situation, as well as the role that the satire was intended to play in social and political struggle in a particular era of the Roman history. The main goal of the work is to find out the reasons why the Decembrists refer to experience of the Roman satirical poetry. One of the main reasons, according to the author, is clearly found in Russian literature of the XIX century tendency to narrow the genre field of the poetic satire, and, as a consequence, the loss of its role of a tribune, denouncing the social and political flaws. “Resurrecting” the half-forgotten in the beginning of the XIX century names of Persius, Lucilius, using the techniques they have developed in oratory and preaching stylistics, the Decembrists Kondraty Ryleyev, Alexander Bestuzhev, after Mikhail Milonov, who outstripped their stylistic experiments, on the one hand, return the satire in the field of active social and political debate, and on the other hand, create a new type of genre structure that is moving closer to the civil ode
