Abstract: The author describes how the image of an enemy (a Japanese) was presented in Soviet mass press in the times of Soviet Russia & Japan conflict. While analyzing the means used in creating this image attention was given to specific features and characteristics that became part of Russia and Japan descriptions in 1918–1945. This approach lets to trace the development of Japanese image in this period of time
