Лексическая реализация в данном случае локализуется вокруг ключевых лексем «dog», «(nodding) donkey», «jellyfish», «fox», «wolf (in sheep’s clothing)», «tortoise».

Abstract: The paper presents an analysis of the mental models that form the basis of zoomorphic graphic metaphors used in the cartoons about Jeremy Corbyn in the British media from 2015 to 2019. The study employs the methods of investigation worked out on the basis of the conceptual metaphor theory and the multimodal metaphor approach. These methods of study have been further changed in the process of the authors’ research so that the linguistic data could be analyzed in a more detailed way. Using archival data and vocabulary definitions, the study describes the main transferred and culturally determined meanings that are involved in creating the image of the Labour Party leader. In particular, the authors dwell on the following elements of manipulation in the implementation of the strategy of discrediting a politician: in the British media, J. Corbyn is presented as an aggressive, dangerous, dishonest and unpleasant and at the same time slow and timid person. The most frequent conceptual models that have been found in the process of investigation are “Corbyn is an Animal”, “Corbyn is an Artifact”, “Corbyn is an Athlete”, and “Corbyn is a Patient”. This article focuses on most typical verbal and graphic means used to realize the model “Corbyn is an Animal”. The data obtained prove that zoomorphic conceptual metaphors used for this purpose include images of a dog, donkey, jellyfish, fox, wolf, and tortoise. The lexical means include such key words as dog, (nodding) donkey, jellyfish, fox, wolf (in sheep’s clothing), and tortoise. Via context, these words are often accompanied by other lexemes including ruthless, smear, intimidation, threat, attack, besieged, rape, murder, puppet-master, frail, foam-flecked, soft, elastic, weak, feeble, compliant, irresolute, and submissive. The results of the study in question contribute to the investigations of political metaphors. Some results may also be of interest to scholars whose professional sphere is linked to cross-cultural and linguo-cultural studies
