Abstract: The article summarizes the experience of many years of research of speechwriters’activity in our country. It describes the history of appearance and development of speechwriting in Russia stage by stage as a phenomenon, the term “speechwriter”, and pays special attention to the assistants to the Presidents of the Russian Federation B. N. Yeltsin, V. V. Putin, D. A. Medvedev. The main trends in the history of speechwriting in our country are the following: first, the writers ceased to influence the political decision-making, becoming “technical” experts who process information from different sources; secondly, texts prepared for program speeches of politicians, especially Vladimir Putin, are usually subject to considerable editing by the speech customer, and therefore the President of the Russian Federation may be recognized as the author of his unique speeches both from the point of view of responsibility for what he says, and from the point of view of authorship primacy; thirdly, discursive innovations are widely used for pragmatic purposes in the speeches of Vladimir Putin: the use of the lexical means close to the people to convey information and “talk” the same language with the electorate, which contributes to an increase in the approval rating of the Russian President. The author makes an attempt to classify speech customers, and give a systemic description of speechwriters activities in the political sphere — they are divided into three groups: formal, semi-formal and informal. The article also singles out the main discursive innovations of the first persons of the country, the implementations of which were attended by the assistants to the President of the Russian Federation. Among them are the unfortunate "revival" of radio addresses, effective “hot lines” with the population of the country, transformations in the Messages of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, etc
