Книга делится на две части: в первой представлены обзор и критика теории метафоры, во второй — исследования, выполненные в русле теории метафоры и анализа дискурса. Ценность труда У. Андерхилла состоит в том, что он знакомит читателей с малоизвестными, но важными работами немецких, французских и чешских лингвистов, исследует метафоры на материале разговорной речи, указывает на тесную связь картины мира и метафоры, рассматривает метафору в идеологическом дискурсе, используя отрывки из речей представителей компартии Чехословакии и политиков нацистской Германии

Abstract: This is a review of the book «Creating worldviews: Metaphor, Ideology and Language» by Underhill J. W., published in Edinburgh, Edinburgh University Press Ltd, 2011. — 301 pp. The book is divided into two parts: part 1 presents a review and criticism of the theory of metaphor, part two is devoted to researches done in theframework of the theory of metaphor and discourse analysis. The value of the book is defined by the fact that J. W. Underhill acquaints the readers with little known but theoretically important works of German, French and Czech linguists, studies metaphors in colloquial speech, specifies close relationship of the worldview and metaphor, and examines metaphor in ideological discourse using passages from the speeches of members of the communist party of Czechoslovakia andpoliticians of the Nazi Germany
