Abstract: The basis of the author's approach to the study of political metaphors is the theory of metaphorical modeling of reality. The analysis of the metaphorical model Election Campaign in the USA is War showed that it is one of the most productive models in German mass media when discussing presidential elections in America. Metaphor is one of the instruments of cognition. The military metaphor represents the main principle of the election race, i.e. activation of verbal aggression, because ideas of rivalry acquire special significance in this context
